Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a mid-level Component Qualification Engineer to join our Nuclear Power Group in the United States. You will apply your expertise in seismic qualification, structural mechanics, and ASME code calculations to support design analyses for new nuclear facilities and plant upgrades.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years in component qualification for nuclear plants, experience with FEA tools, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in engineering with ABET-accredited program.
• 5+ years of component qualification experience in nuclear power.
• Proficiency with structural mechanics analysis using Mathcad.
• Experience with finite element analysis (SAP2000, ANSYS, STAAD, STRUDL).
• Familiarity with AISC, AISI, ASCE, ANSI, ASTM.
• Familiarity with Regulatory Guides and IEEE Seismic Standards.
• Proficiency with MS Office and strong written/verbal skills.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with a team of component qualification engineers and guide less experienced members.
• Prepare and review design calculations and qualification reports from vendors.
• Develop specifications, revise client design basis documents, and support drawing development.
• Perform structural analysis of steel panels, equipment foundations, and seismic-related effects.
• Perform seismic qualification activities including review of test reports and analyses.
• Possibility of travel to client/vendor offices and plant sites for reviews and verification.
