Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a mid-level component qualification engineer to join our Nuclear Power Group in the United States. You will collaborate with a team of engineers, guide less experienced team members, and apply your knowledge of seismic qualification, structural mechanics, and ASME codes.

This role focuses on design calculations, vendor qualification reports, and field verification of designs for nuclear plant projects, with occasional travel to client sites.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in engineering with emphasis in Structural or Mechanical Engineering from ABET-accredited program.
• Five+ years of component qualification experience in nuclear power plant industry.
• Proficiency with structural mechanics analysis using Mathcad.
• Experience with Finite Element Analysis (SAP2000, ANSYS, STAAD, STRUDL).
• Familiarity with design codes: AISC, AISI, ASCE, ANSI, ASTM.
• Familiarity with Regulatory Guides and IEEE Standards for Seismic Qualification.
• Proficiency with MS Office applications.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and review design calculations and analyses for nuclear components.
• Review vendor qualification reports and develop specifications.
• Revise client design basis documents and support designers with drawings.
• Perform structural analysis and design of steel panels, connections, and foundations.
• Lead Seismic Qualification activities and review seismic test reports.
• Travel to client or vendor sites for design reviews and field verification.
