Job summary

Easterseals of Northeast Ohio is seeking an experienced Controller to lead the organization’s financial operations, ensuring accuracy, integrity, and regulatory compliance. The role will provide financial leadership to support the mission and day-to-day operations.

The Controller will supervise accounting staff, oversee payroll, budgets, and financial reporting to the CEO and Board, and coordinate audits while maintaining strong internal controls in a nonprofit setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field required.
• CPA, MBA, or other relevant professional certifications preferred
• Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting or financial management experience, nonprofit experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day financial operations and maintain accurate records.
• Supervise, train, and evaluate accounting staff.
• Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
• Manage accounts payable/receivable, cash receipts, disbursements, and GL activity.
• Review journal entries, reconciliations, and adjustments.
• Prepare monthly financial statements for CEO and Board.
• Monitor budget performance and variances.
• Assist in annual budget development and monitoring.
• Oversee billing, collections, Medicaid/insurance funding, grants, contracts.
• Coordinate annual financial audit and supporting documentation.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable regulations.
• Maintain internal controls and improve financial processes.
• Oversee payroll accounting and related expenses.
