Job summary

Nebraska Children’s Home Society is seeking a Controller to manage day-to-day accounting operations and financial reporting for the Society and Foundation. You will lead GAAP-compliant processes, ensure audit readiness, and provide financial leadership under the CFO.

The role emphasizes governance, internal controls, and collaboration with program leaders to support strategic financial decisions within a nonprofit context.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field required.
• CPA or MBA preferred.
• 7–10 years of progressive accounting experience including financial reporting and month-end close.
• 3–5 years of supervisory experience or managing a contracted accounting provider.
• Nonprofit accounting experience including restricted funds and grant accounting preferred.
• Experience with GAAP and Uniform Guidance.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day accounting operations including general ledger, payables/receivables, and reconciliations.
• Coordinate annual financial audits, Single Audit, and grant audits.
• Prepare documentation for IRS Form 990 and regulatory filings.
• Monitor revenue recognition and donor/grant restrictions.
• Assist with grant budgets and financial analyses.
