Job summary

LeoForce in Lawrence, MA, is seeking a permanent Controller to lead our finance function for a nonprofit organization. The role focuses on GAAP-compliant accounting, robust internal controls, and strategic financial planning.

Responsibilities include overseeing ledgers, budgeting, audits, and cash flow forecasting, while developing the finance team and partnering with leadership to optimize program operations. A CPA or master’s degree is preferred alongside 5+ years in senior finance roles.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or related discipline; Master’s or CPA desirable.
• Minimum of 5 years in a senior finance role.
• Proven experience with ledger operations and annual budgeting.
• Strong knowledge of bookkeeping, accounting standards, laws and regulations.
• Exceptional leadership to motivate and develop a high-performing team.
• Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
• Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Excellent communication skills to present financial information clearly.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring GAAP compliance and regulatory requirements.
• Maintain internal controls for revenue, costs, budgets, and actual expenditures.
• Coordinate audit activity and liaise with external auditors.
• Analyze financial data and present monthly, quarterly, and annual statements clearly and timely.
• Lead annual budgeting and planning; compare forecasts to actual results and explain variances.
• Manage cash flow forecasting with executive leadership; support program operations financially.
• Leverage finance team strengths and develop training to maximize organizational goals.
