Job summary

Wordly is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to design and extend Node.js services, APIs, and modules across our backend platform. You will maintain existing systems, build new capabilities, and integrate them with other backend components in a distributed, event-driven environment.

The role requires strong Node.js/JavaScript experience, proficiency with CI/CD, testing, and AI-assisted development tools. This fully remote position offers opportunities to impact real-time translation tech at scale.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on backend engineering experience.
• Strong hands-on experience with Node.js and JavaScript in backend production environments.
• Experience extending and maintaining Node.js modules, services, and integrations.
• Experience with Node.js backend frameworks.
• Strong understanding of asynchronous programming and event-driven backend patterns.
• Strong experience working in distributed systems and microservice environments.
• Experience with messaging and event streaming systems, NoSQL databases, distributed caches, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Strong experience writing unit and integration tests.
• Experience debugging and resolving complex issues in backend services.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools and comfortable using them effectively.
• Experience with modern software development workflows including version control and code reviews.
• Comfortable working with a fully remote team.
• Self-motivated and able to independently deliver complex backend features from requirements through implementation.

Responsibilities

• Design, extend, and maintain Node.js backend services, modules, and APIs from product requirements.
• Add new capabilities to existing Node.js modules while maintaining compatibility and reliability.
• Integrate Node.js services with other backend services, APIs, and platform components.
• Take ownership of complex backend features from design through delivery.
• Improve and support existing backend services, including debugging complex production issues.
• Implement solutions involving distributed systems, messaging systems, caches, and NoSQL stores.
• Write and maintain comprehensive unit and integration tests with good coverage.
• Participate in design and code reviews, providing constructive feedback to engineers.
• Identify opportunities to improve maintainability, reliability, and engineering practices.
• Work cross-functionally with Product and other engineers to deliver backend functionality.
• Use AI-assisted development tools effectively and responsibly.
