Job Description

Ashburn Consulting, LLC is seeking a Senior Network Security Engineer for a direct hire opportunity in Rockville, Maryland. This individual will possess a strong understanding and implementation experience of Cisco ASA, NextGen Palo Alto Firewalls remote access and VPN solutions, and cloud security. Knowledge and experience in F5 Load Balancers (GTM, LTM, AFM, ASM), ZScaler, Splunk, Azure Security, endpoint security is a big plus. A good understanding of network switching/routing and the ability to configure network devices (Cisco) is required. The candidate will work with a team of engineers to support a large, complex network and proactively design solutions that are efficient and manageable.

Qualifications

The Network Security Consulting Engineer will communicate and support security policies, deployment, and support needs. This person will also work with a team to manage the security posture of an enterprise network and enforce policies by updating and configuring security devices. The individual will communicate security challenges and provide solutions to mitigate them. The Engineer will collaborate with Information Security, Network, and Server Infrastructure teams on operational tasks and evaluating/testing new solutions. Strong writing and presentation skills are required.

This role requires someone with deep and proven technical expertise, the ability to work and communicate effectively in a team environment, and the capacity to handle complex technologies and concepts.

Required Qualifications:

• At least 6-8 years of experience in IT Security and Networking.
• Extensive experience with Firewalls such as Palo Alto and Cisco ASA.
• Cisco Network Device Configuration experience.
• Knowledge and experience in F5 (LTM, GTM, AFM, APM) is preferred.
• Expert-level support, security engineering, and implementation experience on network security firewalls, load balancers, and VPN devices.
• Design, implement, and manage network security devices including firewalls, load balancers, VPNs, and IDS/IPS.
• Continuous monitoring and assessment of network security through testing and new technology implementation.
• Provide enterprise network security solutions based on application and infrastructure requirements.
• Collaborate on the design and implementation of complex network technologies (Data Center, Cloud, Hybrid).
• Develop and maintain technical documentation, network diagrams, SOPs, and work instructions.
• Manage platform lifecycle activities (patching, upgrades, policies).
• Lead initiatives related to network security, including upgrades and consolidations of firewalls and load balancers.
• Knowledge of Cloud-based solutions (Azure Security) is preferred.
• Ability to multi-task and communicate complex technical issues effectively.
• Experience in creating detailed technical documentation and network diagrams.
• Must be able to work on-site in Rockville, Maryland, 3 days a week, with 2 days remote.
