Job summary

GRAIL in Durham, North Carolina, is seeking a Network Engineer to design, build, and operate our hybrid networking infrastructure across on‑premises labs, data centers, and AWS.

You will automate tasks, improve platform reliability, and partner with Platform Engineering, Security, and Cloud teams to deliver secure, scalable networking services.

On‑site work, with on‑call rotation and overtime flexibility, is required to support laboratory and data center infrastructure at our Durham location.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise network infrastructure.
• 3+ years of hands‑on Juniper and/or Aruba enterprise networking platforms, including switching and routing.
• 3+ years of experience managing Palo Alto Networks firewalls, including security policies, NAT, VPNs, and threat prevention.
• 2+ years of hands‑on experience with AWS networking services (VPCs, Transit Gateway, Route Tables, Security Groups, etc.).
• Experience with BGP, OSPF, VLANs, STP, LACP, VRRP, and troubleshooting.
• Experience infrastructure automation with Python, Ansible, Terraform, or PowerShell.
• Experience implementing monitoring/observability platforms like New Relic, SolarWinds, Datadog.
• Strong troubleshooting skills across networking, cloud connectivity, VPNs, firewalls, DNS, DHCP, and security.
• Experience in Linux and Windows enterprise environments.
• Bachelor's degree in CS/IT/Engineering, or equivalent.
• Willingness to participate in on-call rotation.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and support enterprise network infrastructure across campus, lab, data center, and AWS.
• Deploy, maintain, and troubleshoot Juniper and Aruba switching/routing infrastructure.
• Configure and optimize Palo Alto firewalls and security services.
• Design and support AWS networking services including VPCs, Transit Gateway, and site-to-site VPNs.
• Develop infrastructure automation using Python, Ansible, Terraform, or PowerShell.
• Build and maintain network monitoring and observability using New Relic and other tools.
• Investigate and resolve complex networking and security issues in hybrid environments.
• Collaborate with Platform/Cloud/Security/Infrastructure teams for deployments and migrations.
• Participate in lifecycle management, upgrades, disaster recovery, and standardization.
• Develop and maintain documentation, runbooks, and engineering standards.
• Contribute to on-call rotation and incident response.
