Job summary

Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Lightsource (SSRL) seeks a Network Specialist to maintain and enhance our high-speed, secure network supporting accelerator operations and scientific data acquisition. You will implement routing, switching, firewall configurations, and develop automated networking solutions.

You will collaborate with the DCAA group, monitor performance, manage IP space, and maintain documentation while ensuring compliance with security controls.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field with 5 years of networking admin experience.
  • Ability to troubleshoot across OSI layers and across LAN/WAN.
  • Strong IPv4/IPv6, subnetting and routing fundamentals.
  • Experience with Linux administration and SSH management.
  • Automation: scripting and IaC to automate networking tasks.
  • Knowledge of NIST SP 800-53 security controls.

Responsibilities

  • Implement routing, switching and firewall configurations.
  • Develop automated IT networking solutions.
  • Troubleshoot network connectivity issues.
  • Monitor network performance and respond to infrastructure alerts.
  • Create and maintain network scripts catalog.
  • Manage IP addresses and subnets.
  • Maintain network documentation and diagrams.
  • Support cybersecurity posture with minimal operational impact.
  • Collaborate with accelerator and beamline staff to meet network objectives.
  • Evaluate new technologies and provide recommendations.
