Job summary

Whitman, Requardt & Associates, LLP in Virginia seeks an experienced Bridge Inspection Team Lead to guide NBIS inspections and ensure safety and compliance.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of NBIS bridge inspection experience, a Team Leader certification, and strong knowledge of AASHTO, FHWA, and VDOT standards. Duties include leading field teams, planning projects, reporting, and coordinating with clients.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field preferred.
• Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in structural or NBIS bridge inspection.
• Current NBIS Team Leader Certification per Title 23, Chapter I, Subchapter G, Part 650, Subpart C § 650.309 or ability to obtain within 12 months of employment
• Strong knowledge of AASHTO, FHWA, and VDOT bridge inspection requirements. Experience in NC, WV, and MD is a bonus
• Proficiency in inspection software, data collection tools, and Microsoft Office.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and construction documents
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
• Working knowledge of MicroStation and MS Office
• Completed FHWA Bridge Inspector's Reference Manual training (NHI Course 130055) and refresher requirements
• Must be willing to work nights and overtime when required

Responsibilities

• Lead field inspection teams in performing bridge and structural inspections in accordance with NBIS.
• Plan, coordinate, and execute inspection projects to meet client and regulatory requirements.
• Perform hands-on inspection of bridges and related structures, including climbing and rope access.
• Review, interpret, and apply regulations and inspection standards.
• Document inspection findings through detailed reports and photos.
• Mentor and supervise inspection staff ensuring data accuracy and safety.
• Coordinate with project managers and stakeholders on schedules and deliverables.
• Maintain compliance with safety protocols and best practices.
