Job summary

The Illinois Department of Transportation is seeking a Senior Bridge Inspection Technician to perform detailed NBIS inspections of bridges statewide, document deficiencies, and support load ratings and repairs. The role requires on-site leadership and extensive field work in a hybrid schedule at various sites across Illinois.

Requirements include two years of college in civil engineering technology or related field plus significant engineering experience; preferred certifications and NBIS

Qualifications

• Completion of NBIS-related training or extensive NBIS knowledge.
• Two years of college in civil engineering technology or related field with several years of engineering experience.
• Strong knowledge of bridge inspection policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Performs instrument operation and precise measurements during detailed inspections.
• Acts as on-site NBIS Team Leader when required.
• Performs visual inspections and uses nondestructive testing to identify deficiencies.
• Operates a variety of bridge inspection equipment.
• Adheres to safety rules and promotes fair treatment of all employees.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
