Job summary

THOR Solutions is seeking a Senior Naval Architect to join the USCG Ship Design Team at USCG Headquarters in Washington, DC. The ideal candidate has extensive marine structural engineering experience and knowledge of US shipbuilding regulations and acquisitions.

The role involves coordinating design assessments, supporting HM&E specifications, and interfacing with USCG authorities. A Secret clearance eligibility is required; travel up to 10% may be needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture or related field from ABET-accredited school.
  • Minimum six years in naval architecture with structural and stability experience.
  • Experience with testing, vessel performance, hull design, and regulatory rules.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical assessments of shipbuilder design deliverables.
  • Support HM&E and Auxiliary systems specifications development.
  • Coordinate TIMs and capture action items.
  • Prepare technical papers, studies, and reports on emerging issues.
  • Assist in developing technical responses to contractor questions.
  • Interface with USCG SDT and other authorities.
  • Analyze reports from third-party validations and make recommendations.
  • Support hull form, stability, weights, structures, power, propulsion analyses.
  • Update System Specification, SOW, CDRLs, and Indicative Design to address issues.
