Job summary

THOR Solutions, LLC seeks a senior Marine Propulsion Engineer to support USCG Ship Design Team in Baltimore, MD. The role requires leading propulsion system design, analysis, and trade studies for shipboard machinery and associated components, with familiarity in ABET-accredited programs and U.S.

shipbuilding standards. The ideal candidate has 6+ years in Marine Mechanical Engineering, 1+ year in Federal or commercial ship acquisition, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Marine or Mechanical Engineering from ABET-accredited institution.
• At least six (6) years of progressive experience in Marine Mechanical Engineering.
• At least one (1) year of experience related to U.S. Federal or commercial ship/boat building acquisition programs.
• Knowledge of ABS, NVR, and commercial ship design rules and regulations.
• Proficient with common productivity software.
• Strong communications skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support and documentation design, develop, and evaluate operation of marine vessels, ship machinery, and related equipment, including power supply and propulsion systems.
• Research and develop ship propulsion systems (diesels, gas turbines, diesel-electric, propellers, rudders, thrusters, gears, shafts, bearings, seals, noise, vibration).
• Develop system documentation and ship specifications.
• Design, develop and evaluate operation of marine vessels and propulsion machinery; review technical data packages; oversee trade studies.
