Job summary
City of Virginia Beach’s Parks & Recreation department seeks a Natural Resources Coordinator to lead the City’s Natural Resources Management, Urban Forestry, and Horticulture teams. You will oversee planning, budgets, contracts, and environmental compliance for municipal properties and waterways.
The role supervises about 24 staff, guides policy development, and coordinates with other City agencies and partners to deliver high-quality landscape and ecological services.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Ecology, Biology, Botany, Natural Resources Management, Forestry, Horticulture, Environmental Science, Environmental Planning, or related field.
- Six years of experience in related fields or an equivalent combination of education and experience to ten years.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime when required.
Responsibilities
- Manage and direct the City’s Natural Resources Management, Urban Forestry, and Horticulture teams.
- Oversee strategic planning, program administration, budget management, and environmental compliance.
- Supervise approximately 24 members and coordinate contracts for environmental consulting and landscape services.
- Develop divisional policies and monitor operating budgets and expenditures.
