Job summary

The Division of Mineral Resources Management within the Ohio Department of Natural Resources is seeking a Natural Resources Engineer 4 to lead Abandoned Mine Land project design and supervise assigned engineers. The role is based in Columbus, OH with eventual placement at one of several Ohio headquarters locations.

The position requires a professional engineer license and 2 years of registered experience, including time as Natural Resources Engineer 3 or an equivalent role.

Qualifications

• Certificate of registration as professional engineer issued by State Licensing Board.
• 2 years of experience as registered professional engineer, with 12 months as Natural Resources Engineer 3 or equivalent.
• Equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment may be substituted for the experience but not for licensure.

Responsibilities

• Act as lead engineer and supervise assigned engineer on Abandoned Mine Land (AML) project design.
• Take lead role in selection of consultants to provide professional design services.
• Develop scope of work and assist in negotiating consultant contracts.
• Oversee consultant work in accordance with contracts.
• Review reports, plans, specifications and cost estimates developed by consultants and assist with contractor bidding process on in-house and consultant developed projects.
• Manage AML Emergency Engineering Program including investigation, design, & construction oversight.
• Provide technical assistance and guidance to various Division programs and lower lever engineers, administrative personnel, consultants, contractors, landowners, and public officials and other interested parties.
