Job summary

City of Phenix City is seeking a Comptroller to manage routine accounting tasks, payroll, purchasing, revenue collection, and accounts payable/receivable. The role reports to the Finance Director and requires leadership of the Finance Department in their absence.

Starting salary ranges from $68,657 to $78,757, with work hours 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., weekends/overtime as needed. A Bachelors in accounting/finance is required, with a Masters preferred; CPA is an option. ASAP hire.

Qualifications

• Seven years of progressive accounting/finance experience with at least two years in a supervisory role.
• CPA certification preferred.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and GASB principles.
• Ability to supervise and manage financial operations.

Responsibilities

• Supervises and assists in the preparation of monthly financial reports and the annual external financial audit.
• Reviews and assists in maintaining general and subsidiary ledgers.
• Assists with bank reconciliations, payroll administration, accounts payable/receivable, and cash management.
• Records and reports capital assets; prepares intricate journal entries.
• Researches data for grant accounting and ensures compliance with applicable laws.

Education

Bachelors Degree in Accounting or Finance

Masters Degree in Accounting or related field
