Job summary

The University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science, Chesapeake Biological Laboratory in Solomons, Maryland seeks a multi-trade senior maintenance mechanic to join the Maintenance and Facilities department. The role performs semi-skilled building maintenance, basic repairs and routine inspections to ensure operational readiness.

Responsibilities include assisting journey level trades staff, reading and writing work orders, and maintaining safety standards.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent and four years of related work experience.
• Ability to exert up to 70 lbs and work at heights up to 35 feet.
• Knowledge of safety practices for building maintenance.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions and work in a team.
• Ability to read and interpret work orders and reports.

Responsibilities

• Perform semi-skilled maintenance and repairs on buildings, equipment, roadways and grounds.
• Inspect and repair buildings, equipment, roadways and grounds as scheduled or unscheduled.
• Assist journey level trades personnel in skilled maintenance and repairs.
• Ensure operational readiness and safety of equipment.
• Prepare work summary reports and reading/writing work orders.
• Read, write and interpret work orders and reports.
