WSP is seeking an experienced Lead Mechanical Movable Bridge Engineer to join our Transportation & Infrastructure practice in multiple U.S. locations including New York, NY.

The role focuses on the design, rehabilitation, and support of movable bridge machinery and related systems across North America. Ideal candidates bring 10+ years in bridge mechanical engineering, PE licensure, and proven leadership in multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.
• PE license required.
• 10+ years of bridge mechanical engineering experience.
• Knowledge of hydraulics, power transmission, rotating equipment, bearings.
• Experience with inspections, evaluations, and rehabilitation design.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical engineering design and rehabilitation projects for movable bridges (bascules, swing, vertical lift).
• Perform evaluations of bridge machinery systems, drive mechanisms, hydraulics, gearboxes, motors, brakes, controls.
• Provide technical leadership for inspections, condition assessments, and lifecycle evaluations.
• Develop engineering calculations, load studies, and mechanical design docs.
• Prepare plans, specs, reports, cost estimates, and construction documents.
• Serve as Engineer of Record for bridge mechanical projects where appropriate.
• Lead multidisciplinary coordination with structural, electrical, civil, and construction teams.
• Support construction administration: shop drawings, inspections, and commissioning.
• Mentor junior engineers and staff.
• Support business development and client relationships.
