Job summary

The State Investigator position within the Transportation Regulation Bureau is responsible for conducting independent safety audits and inspections of motor carriers, investigating complaints, and preparing detailed investigative reports and testimony for regulatory proceedings.

The ideal candidate will have experience in investigations, strong writing and organizational skills, and Spanish speaking abilities.

Qualifications

• Experience with investigations and compliance inspections.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Excellent writing and communication abilities.
• Spanish speaking ability is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Conduct independent safety audits and inspections on motor carriers according to state statutes and NM regulations.
• Review inspection results and provide detailed written compliance reports with recommendations.
• Investigate and respond to complaints against motor carriers.
• Interview and obtain statements from suspects and witnesses; prepare detailed investigation reports.
• Provide expert reports and testimony in hearings based on investigations and regulations.
• Process and track compliance orders and related duties under Motor Carrier Act enforcement.
• Assist in training staff on motor carrier inspections and investigations.
