Job summary

Instrument is seeking an experienced motion designer to lead the creation of compelling 2D/3D motion work and interactive experiences. You will translate concepts into storyboards, prototypes, and final deliverables while ensuring brand consistency and high craft standards across projects.

You will collaborate with designers, writers, strategists, developers, and producers, mentoring junior teammates and advocating for motion-led ideas.

Qualifications

• Portfolio demonstrating exceptional motion craft, visual storytelling, and a strong creative point of view.
• Significant experience leading complex motion projects from concept through final execution.
• Advanced proficiency with motion, animation, and interactive design tools.
• Fluency in typography, composition, pacing, transitions, and visual design principles.
• Experience across motion applications such as brand systems, campaigns, content, interfaces, films, or digital experiences.
• Ability to work autonomously, make thoughtful creative decisions, and maintain high craft standards.
• Strong communication and presentation skills, including the ability to advocate for motion-led ideas.
• Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary creative and technical teams.
• For Lead-level consideration, experience defining motion direction, overseeing quality across deliverables, and guiding other creatives.
• Curiosity about emerging technologies, workflows, and visual approaches, with sound creative judgment.

Responsibilities

• Concept, design, and execute high-quality 2D, 3D, and interactive motion work.
• Translate strategy and creative concepts into storyboards, style frames, motion studies, prototypes, and final deliverables.
• Use motion to strengthen storytelling, brand expression, usability, and emotional impact.
• Bring brand identities, campaigns, interfaces, and digital experiences to life across formats.
• Develop reusable motion principles, systems, and patterns that ensure consistency at scale.
• Collaborate with designers, writers, strategists, developers, and producers from concept through delivery.
• Present motion concepts and creative rationale to internal teams and clients.
• Own the quality and consistency of motion deliverables while working within timelines and technical constraints.
• At the Lead level, define motion vision, guide team execution, and mentor other designers.
• Explore emerging tools and technologies, including AI, and apply them responsibly.
