Job summary

Anza Mortgage Insurance Corporation is seeking a detail-oriented Mortgage Insurance Underwriter to join our team in Wilmington, NC. The role focuses on assessing borrower creditworthiness and risk, leveraging technology to deliver excellent service while adhering to risk guidelines.

The candidate will work onsite in Wilmington with flexibility for remote work from specified states. Experience with Encompass, Empower, Vesta, Blue Sage, and Calyx is preferred, as is a strong regulatory acumen.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or a related field.
• 5-7 years of mortgage underwriting experience.
• Proficient with automated underwriting systems (e.g., DU/LPA) and loan origination software.
• Experience with modern technology and testing new technologies.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Thorough understanding of insurance risk underwriting and regulatory requirements.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Review and analyze mortgage insurance applications and supporting documents.
• Utilize automated underwriting systems and proprietary tech to evaluate risk and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Communicate clearly with loan officers, processors, and stakeholders to gather information.
• Make informed underwriting decisions based on documentation and risk assessment.
• Document decisions and provide justification for approvals or rejections.
• Prioritize work to meet deadlines and SLAs.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of mortgage insurance policies and regulations.
• Identify potential fraudulent activity by reviewing loan docs and vendor reports.
• Support mortgage insurance analysts and participate in testing/validation activities.
