Job summary

Commonwealth Fusion Systems is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer, Process Equipment to lead the design and delivery of molten salt process equipment, including ASME tanks, heat exchangers, piping, and gas processing equipment.

The role requires a B.S. in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering and 8+ years in industrial fixed equipment design, with strong experience in ASME/B31.3, CAD, P&IDs, and safety-focused practices. Occasional travel to suppliers and commissioning is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent.
• 8+ years of work experience.
• Knowledge of ASME BPVC and B31.3 for process equipment and piping.
• Industrial-scale fixed equipment design experience.
• Design of high-temperature equipment and components.
• Experience managing external partners and suppliers.
• Design for hazardous fluid service.
• Familiarity with ASME/API codes and standards including API 510/API 570/API 579.

Responsibilities

• Lead and design molten salt process equipment including tanks, heat exchangers, and piping systems.
• Interface with suppliers and construction teams for procurement, installation and commissioning.
• Support equipment reliability in later project stages.
• Contribute to piping stress analyses and system interfaces.
• Collaborate across teams to incorporate R&D learnings into component designs.
• Prioritize safety across project lifecycles.
• Track milestones and report progress.
