Job summary

Voyager Technologies in California seeks a Level IV Modeling, Simulation, and Controls Engineer to design, develop, and analyze control systems and simulations for propulsion and aerospace systems. You will build high-fidelity models, develop algorithms, and assess performance to advance program maturity.

This role requires DoD Secret clearance eligibility, strong systems thinking, and collaboration across GNC, software, and test teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in systems engineering, aerospace engineering, mechanical, electrical engineering, or related STEM field from an accredited college/university
  • Master’s degree in systems engineering or related discipline desirable and may substitute for 1 year of experience
  • 7–10 years in modeling, simulation, control systems, or estimation algorithm development in aerospace/defense
  • Strong systems thinking and ability to work across functional boundaries
  • Experience with DoD, MDA, or equivalent government programs preferred

Responsibilities

  • Develop high-fidelity models and control algorithms for propulsion, flight control, and guidance subsystems
  • Support creation of system simulation architectures for design iteration, verification, and validation
  • Perform controllability studies of dynamic systems under perturbations and control strategies
  • Define control system topologies and support gain tuning across architectures
  • Support program performance engineering through requirement derivation, margin analysis, and trade studies
  • Conduct system-level performance assessments using Monte Carlo, sensitivity, and parametric studies
  • Apply physics-based modeling to simulate mechanical, thermal, and aerodynamic systems
  • Contribute to propulsion system and ballistics modeling and assessments
  • Develop and validate models of actuation systems for propulsion control and dynamic mechanisms
  • Aid customers in developing CONOPS and requirements thru propulsion modeling
  • Develop estimation techniques to improve model accuracy
  • Extend modeling into state-space and modern control methods
  • Support simulation and analysis of flight vehicle control for propulsion concepts
  • Collaborate with GNC, software, systems, and test teams
  • Participate in customer engagements and milestone events
  • Mentor junior engineers and review modeling work products
  • Author model reports, simulation plans, and interface definitions
  • Ensure models meet verification, validation, and traceability requirements
  • Support trade studies and concept maturation of control and propulsion systems
  • Travel up to 10% for reviews/tests/customer engagements
  • Work in secure/classified environments
  • Advance aerospace modeling and control capabilities
