We are seeking a RF/Microwave & Test engineer to support the Communication Electronics Department with insertion of GaN and RF integrated circuits into the nation's sensor and communications space systems. You will set up and perform measurements on RF, microwave, and mm-wave integrated circuits (MMICs/RFICs) and modules, extract nonlinear and noise models for devices, and perform circuit analysis and design, all in a dynamic research and development environment. This role offers opportunities to grow and develop new skills in areas such as passive microwave component design, communications systems, MMIC design, hybrid MIC design, phased array systems, rapid prototyping, RF PCB design, and analog circuit design.
Work Model: This role requires on-site support in El Segundo, with flexibility for a hybrid work model (20%).
What You'll Be Doing
Deeply understand and operate advanced microwave equipment such as wafer probe stations, load pull tuners, signal analyzers, and network analyzers to measure on-wafer and fixtured measurements such as S-parameters, large signal power and efficiency, linearity, load pull, noise parameters/figure, EVM, and pulsed IV.
Extract nonlinear and noise models for III-V semiconductor devices.
Lead the creation of DC and RF fixtures for high power and high temperature tests.
Mentor and train junior engineers on device modeling and measurement.
Develop test plans and ensure lab readiness.
Solve microwave hardware anomalies using analytical methods and experimental setups.
Collaborate onsite with other engineers and technicians.
What You Need to be Successful - Engineering Specialist
Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical discipline from an accredited college or university, with at least 6 years of experience.
Six or more years of related experience (including postgraduate studies) in microwave engineering areas.
Hands-on ability to assemble, tune, test, and troubleshoot hardware in a laboratory environment.
Experience with on-wafer probe measurements and techniques.
Experience handling and manipulating small ESD-sensitive components using tweezers, microscopes, or related tools.
Data analysis experience with Excel, Python, or MATLAB.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Strong problem-solving skills, quick learning ability, and excellent communication skills.
Ability to influence technical decisions and engage others.
This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance; US citizenship is required.
Additional Requirements for Senior Engineering Specialist
Ten or more years of related experience, including postgraduate studies.
Deep understanding of microwave measurement techniques and equipment.
In-depth knowledge of nonlinear and noise models for III-V semiconductor devices.
How You Can Stand Out
Experience leading small teams of engineers or technicians.
Proficiency with microwave circuit analysis or electromagnetic simulation software such as ADS or HFSS.
Experience in RF/microwave circuits and systems, electromagnetics, MMIC/RFIC design, or phased arrays.
Current SECRET or TS//SCI clearance is a plus.
We offer a competitive compensation package, with salaries ranging from $129,000 to $193,000 annually, based on education, experience, and skills.
