Job summary

Gates Foundation seeks a seasoned leader to guide the Data & AI team’s measurement, learning, and evaluation function for a 24-month term. Lead strategy tracking, portfolio evaluation, and evidence synthesis, with dashboards, AI tools, and external partnerships to inform grant decisions.

Role emphasizes equity-centered design, collaboration with program officers, and clear communication of complex findings to leadership and partners. Seattle-based role with relocation support as needed.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree or equivalent in education research, public policy, economics, statistics, or related field.
• Extensive experience in measurement, learning, and evaluation including evaluation design, impact analysis, and evidence synthesis.
• Mastery of quantitative and qualitative evaluation methods: theory of change, logic models, effect sizes, cost-effectiveness, scenario modeling.
• Experience translating findings into accessible narratives and visualizations for senior leadership and external partners.
• Experience building interactive data dashboards and applying AI-assisted tools to accelerate workflows.
• Experience managing external evaluation partnerships with scoping, contracting, and oversight.
• Mastery knowledge of U.S. education or workforce development with equity-centered frameworks.

Responsibilities

• Define and track strategy progress with evaluation design and indicators.
• Design and build interactive dashboards to visualize portfolio progress for leadership.
• Develop impact accounting frameworks; apply effect-size extraction and scenario analysis.
• Analyze and communicate findings to inform strategy and planning.
• Support portfolios with evaluation design and progress reporting for grants and investments.
• Coordinate with program officers, grantees, and partners to ensure data for measuring progress.
• Facilitate team strategy learning and share insights across the Data & AI team and others.
• Leverage AI tools to streamline MLE workflows and improve reporting accuracy.
• Participate in foundation-wide MLE learning communities and cross-foundation forums.
• Apply equity-centered evaluation to ensure inclusive outcomes.
