Job summary

AppFolio is hiring a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to design and ship the next generation of voice and conversational AI agents within Realm-X. This role defines production voice and chat agent pipelines, at the intersection of LLM agent frameworks, real-time voice tech, and streaming infrastructure.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience developing and scaling web-based applications.
• Shipped production AI agents serving real users in voice and/or text channels.
• Experience with agent frameworks and LLM-based systems.
• Strong Python and async programming skills.

Responsibilities

• Architect and ship voice and text agent pipelines for real-time, multi-turn interactions.
• Balance reasoning depth vs. latency across frontier LLMs and routing strategies.
• Lead a small pod of ML and platform engineers; improve agent evaluation and observability.
• Define KPIs and eval harnesses for agent quality with Product/Voice teams.
• Optimize for voice latency and cost with SLM fine-tuning and inference.
