Job summary

AppFolio is hiring a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to design and ship voice and conversational AI agents in Realm-X. You will work across LLM frameworks, voice tech, and streaming infrastructure to deliver reliable, low-latency experiences at scale.

You’ll collaborate with Product, Voice, and ML Platform teams to translate cutting-edge research into production-ready systems. You will lead a small pod of ML and platform engineers, set quality KPIs, and optimize for latency and cost.

Qualifications

• Experience with production AI agents serving real users in voice/text channels.
• Strong systems thinking; design pipelines and scalable architectures.
• Fluent in Python, asynchronous programming, and real-time streaming with WebSockets.

Responsibilities

• Ship voice and text agent pipelines for real-time customer interactions.
• Balance reasoning depth with latency across LLMs and routing strategies.
• Lead a small pod of ML and platform engineers; drive agent evaluation and observability.
• Define KPIs and acceptance criteria for agent quality with cross-functional partners.
• Drive fine-tuning and inference optimization for voice latency and cost.
