Job summary

AppFolio is hiring a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to design and ship the next generation of voice and conversational AI agents within Realm-X. You will help define production voice pipelines, work at the intersection of LLM agent frameworks, real-time voice tech, and streaming infrastructure.

You will collaborate with Product, Voice channel, and ML Platform teams to deliver reliable, low-latency, multi-channel experiences that scale across our customer base.

Qualifications

• Agent frameworks: LangChain & related tools.
• Voice stack: TTS/STT pipelines, voice latency trade-offs.
• LLM fluency: reasoning, tool use, structured output.
• Telephony & cloud: Twilio/AWS experience.
• Engineering: Python, async, WebSockets for real-time streaming.
• ML fundamentals: deep learning, inference optimization, Docker on AWS.

Responsibilities

• Architect and ship voice and text agent pipelines for real-time, multi-turn interactions.
• Balance reasoning depth with latency across LLMs and models.
• Lead a pod of ML and platform engineers; improve observability and incident response.
• Define KPIs and evaluation harnesses for agent quality with product teams.
• Perf optimization for voice latency and cost through targeted fine-tuning.
