Job summary

Airbnb, Inc. is seeking a Senior Machine Learning Engineer for Relevance and Personalization (Query Intelligence) in the United States. You will advance query understanding, autocomplete, tagging, and intent modeling across product areas while driving scalable ML services and models.

You will collaborate with cross-functional partners, leverage large-scale data, and push state-of-the-art NLP/LLM techniques to improve search relevance and guest experience.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of industry experience in applied Machine Learning, inclusive MS or PhD in relevant fields.
• Strong programming (Scala / Python / Java / C++ or equivalent) and data engineering skills.
• Deep understanding of ML best practices, training/serving skew minimization, A/B testing, feature engineering and model selection.

Responsibilities

• Work with large-scale structured and unstructured data to build and improve ML models for search and personalization.
• Develop query understanding capabilities—autocomplete, smart compose, tagging, expansion and intent modeling.
• Collaborate with engineers, product managers and data scientists to identify opportunities and quantify impact.
• Produce, productionize and operate ML models and data pipelines at scale (batch and real-time).
• Utilize in-house and third-party ML tools/infrastructure to create high-performing ML systems with low latency.
