Job summary

Corning Incorporated in Durham, NC seeks a Senior Engineer, Machine Learning to join its Manufacturing Technology and Engineering group. You will develop and deploy applied ML, AI, and analytics solutions across manufacturing processes, collaborating with technical customers to model and implement production-ready systems.

The role emphasizes practical ML, with projects in predictive maintenance, computer vision, and LLM-integrated assistants.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher with 2+ years of applied ML experience
• Applied experience using ML methods for classification, regression, clustering, forecasting
• Strong statistics foundation and data-driven problem solving
• Experience in at least one ML area (ML, DL, CV, LLMs)
• Python proficiency and OO programming knowledge
• Experience with ML frameworks or data-analysis libraries (PyTorch, TensorFlow, Pandas, Polars, DuckDB, PySpark)
• Git/version-control familiarity
• Ability to translate problems to analytical methods and communicate results

Responsibilities

• Partner with stakeholders to define ML/AI solutions with real business impact
• Perform data exploration, data prep, model development, evaluation, and recommendations
• Develop ML solutions for classification, regression, clustering, predictive maintenance, CV, or inspection applications
• Develop and support LLM-integrated applications (RAG-based, MCP-based)
• Build and deploy models into on-premise, cloud, or edge environments
• Configure and troubleshoot ML environments and data workflows
• Document approaches, results, and recommendations for stakeholders
• Collaborate across teams to identify new ML opportunities
