Rocket Lab in Long Beach, CA is seeking a Senior Machine Learning Engineer II to build deep learning models for advanced Electro-Optical image processing and to support SDA’s Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture (PWSA). You will design and deploy ML pipelines, collaborating with researchers and engineers across AI, ML, and CV teams.

Based in the Optical Systems division, this role requires a strong background in ML and CV, Python, and DL frameworks, with a focus on real-world mission data

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree with 8+ years of experience or higher in related field.
• Strong background in machine learning, model selection, training, and deployment.
• Experience with deep learning for computer vision / image processing.
• Proficiency in Python and ML libraries (Keras, TensorFlow, PyTorch).
• Software engineering fundamentals: version control, testing, CI/CD, containerization.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to developing ML solutions for real-world space systems problems.
• Design, train, and deploy deep learning models for EO/IR image processing.
• Build and maintain ML pipelines for data ingestion, feature engineering, training and inference.
• Collaborate with researchers/engineers in AI, ML, and CV areas.
• Prototype rapidly and integrate into operational systems.
• Troubleshoot and maintain existing and new systems.
• Stay current with ML research and evaluate new tools and frameworks.
