Job summary

Rocket Lab's Optical Systems division seeks a Senior Machine Learning Engineer I to build deep learning solutions for EO/IR image processing and support SDA's Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture. Based in Long Beach, CA, you will design, train, and deploy ML models, and create end-to-end ML pipelines.

You will collaborate with researchers and engineers on AI, machine learning, and computer vision, prototype rapidly, and maintain systems in production while pursuing ongoing ML research.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Physics or related field; 5+ years of experience, or Master's with 3+ years, or PhD
• Strong background in machine learning including model selection, training, validation, testing and deployment
• Experience building deep learning networks for computer vision, image processing, or video analysis
• Strong math background (linear algebra) and proficiency in Python
• Experience with deep learning libraries (Keras, TensorFlow, PyTorch) and software engineering fundamentals (version control, testing, CI/CD, containerization)
• US citizenship is required and ability to obtain/maintain a U.S. Government security clearance

Responsibilities

• Contribute to developing ML solutions for real-world space-domain problems
• Design, train, and deploy ML models for Optical Systems applications
• Build and maintain ML pipelines for data ingestion, feature engineering, training, and inference
• Collaborate with researchers and engineers on AI/ML and computer vision
• Prototype rapidly and integrate into operational systems
• Troubleshoot and maintain existing and new systems
• Stay current with ML research and evaluate new tools and frameworks
