Job summary

Rocket Lab seeks a Senior Machine Learning Engineer II for the Optical Systems division in Chantilly, VA. You will design, train, and deploy ML models for EO/IR image processing and integrate deep learning solutions into mission-critical systems for DoD/IC customers.

You will build ML pipelines, collaborate with researchers, and stay at the forefront of AI breakthroughs to power space and defense applications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in CS/EE/Physics or related field with 8+ years (or MS 6+ years, PhD with relevant focus).
• Strong ML background: model selection, training, validation, deployment.
• Experience building deep learning models for computer vision, image processing, or video analysis.

Responsibilities

• Design, train, and deploy ML models for Optical Systems applications.
• Build and maintain ML pipelines for data ingestion, feature engineering, training, and inference.
• Collaborate with researchers/engineers on AI, ML, and CV.
• Prototype rapidly and integrate into operational systems; troubleshoot and maintain systems.
• Stay current with ML research and evaluate new tools and techniques.
