Job summary

Toyota Financial Services in the United States is seeking a Lead Engineer in ML/AI to ship production-grade intelligent systems on AWS. You will own end-to-end ML features from data and model design to deployment and monitoring.

The role requires strong ML fundamentals, hands-on experience with LLMs, PyTorch/TensorFlow, and MLOps. You will mentor engineers, collaborate with product and data teams, and drive reliable AI-powered capabilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, or related field
• 5+ years of software engineering experience, including 2–4 years focused on ML/AI in production
• Solid understanding of machine learning fundamentals: supervised and unsupervised learning, deep learning architectures, optimization techniques, and evaluation methodologies
• Hands-on experience with large language models: prompt engineering, RAG pipelines, embedding models, vector databases, and agent frameworks
• Experience working with AWS AI/ML services, including Amazon Bedrock and SageMaker
• Strong proficiency in Python— production-quality ML code
• Experience with core ML frameworks: PyTorch, TensorFlow, or JAX, and libraries like Hugging Face Transformers
• Familiarity with MLOps practices: MLflow, W&B, model registries, CI/CD for ML
• Experience with data engineering fundamentals: ETL, feature stores, validation
• Infrastructure as Code for ML: AWS CDK, CloudFormation, or Terraform
• Observability and monitoring for ML: model performance, data drift, alerts
• Clear communicator — discuss model tradeoffs and decisions with teammates

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain end-to-end ML pipelines from data ingestion to deployment and monitoring
• Lead the integration of large language models into product features, including prompt engineering and RAG
• Select and apply approaches for each problem: Bedrock, SageMaker, or hybrid methods
• Own ML features from design through deployment, including testing and post-launch monitoring
• Participate in technical design discussions and tradeoff analyses across ML architecture
• Debug and troubleshoot complex ML systems, including data quality and latency issues
• Write production-quality ML code and participate in code reviews
• Mentor junior engineers through pairing, reviews, and knowledge sharing
• Collaborate with Product, Data Science, and Engineering to deliver AI-powered features
• Identify data quality gaps and ML debt proactively
