Job summary

Graymont is seeking a Senior Mining Engineer to provide short, medium, and long-term mine planning expertise for open-pit operations in the Western North America region, including the United States and Canada. The role is based in Sandy, UT with hybrid work arrangements.

You will lead mine planning optimization, permit support, reclamation planning, and cost-improvement initiatives across multiple quarries, collaborating with geology and operations teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering required.
• 10+ years in mine planning/open-pit operations preferred.
• Travel up to 40% across North America.
• Experience with mine planning software (Surpac) advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain mine plans for the Western Region.
• Create and update pit designs using internal standards.
• Submit and manage mine permit applications for the regions.
• Generate and review reclamation plans for each site.
• Perform reconciliation to verify reserves and quarry progression.
• Lead efficiency improvements and cost-saving initiatives.
• Provide management for blast optimization and fines reduction studies.
• Support quarry automation and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Coordinate consultants for mine planning, reclamation and permitting.
• Provide estimates of reclamation costs for decommissioning provisions.
• Maintain mine/reclamation data in the Mineral Resource Development database.
• Verify and submit reserve volumes annually for each quarry.
• Provide training for supervision on mine plans and controls.
• Review safety, production, and reclamation performance annually.
