Job summary

Kinross Gold Corporation is seeking a mining engineer to lead comprehensive mine planning efforts, including mineral modeling and pit/underground designs. You will oversee project management, coordinate cross-departmental inputs, and help optimize production schedules and resource estimations.

The role emphasizes safe practices, supervision of personnel, and effective communication with staff across departments. ABET-accredited engineering degree and mining experience are required.

Qualifications

• BS Degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program (preferably environmental, civil, or mining).
• Minimum of five years of experience in a mining environment preferred.
• Knowledge of engineering techniques as they apply to pit design, underground mine design, mine planning, equipment analysis, and project management.
• Thorough understanding of open-pit and underground mining operations as well as a general understanding of milling operations and mine maintenance.
• Thorough working knowledge and skill using a PC utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation programs. Experience with MineSight and AutoCAD preferred.
• Experience in supervising personnel is preferred.
• Have a strong commitment to safe working practices.

Responsibilities

• Develop accurate mineral models for planning and reserve/resource calculations.
• Design ultimate pits and intermediate phases based on mineral model and constraints such as mining limitations, slope design criteria, topography, and facility location.
• Develop underground designs and mine plans based on mineral model and constraints such as Geotech requirements, equipment selection and facility location.
• Generate a long-range plan that predicts mining progress by period using pit/underground designs and mineral model.
• Review short-term mine plans and schedules and integrate with long-term/LOM plans.
• Evaluate alternative designs and mine plans based on operational scenarios to maximize productivity and revenue.
• Conduct equipment studies to verify planned production goals.
• Prepare resource/reserve estimations and annual technical reports.
• Generate mine planning and project management monthly summaries for company reporting.
• Provide support to other departments on monthly reporting.
• Review designs of dumps, access roads, ramps, and mine site facilities.
• Project management duties including contract review, bid award, cost estimation, schedule tracking, and reporting.
• Supervise and train other department personnel to perform duties listed above.
