Job summary

FirstEnergy, headquartered in Akron, Ohio, seeks a meteorologist to provide centralized weather support across FE units, including real-time forecasts, climate analyses, and guidance for outage planning. You will collaborate with NOAA and other agencies to ensure reliability of the electric grid.

The role involves development of predictive weather tools, support for the Storm Impact model, and participation in wildfire strategy.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Meteorology or Atmospheric Science required.
• Minimum 5 years professional experience in operational forecasting.
• Ability to analyze real-time and prognostic meteorological data.
• Ability to provide meteorological support to key decision-makers during high impact events.

Responsibilities

• Provide centralized meteorological support to all FE business units.
• Provide air quality modeling, policy, regulatory, and technical support.
• Provide weather forecast support for weather events capable of disrupting power.
• Provide briefings and presentations to senior leadership.
• Provide medium range forecast support.
• Provide month- and two-month temperature anomaly forecasts.
• Develop and maintain programs to create products for FE customers’ needs.
• Serve as SME on climatological and meteorological studies.
• Advise on the weather component of the Storm Impact model (outage prediction).
• Support Wildfire Program Strategy.
• Be available for off-hours and weekend support.
