Job summary

FirstEnergy is seeking a Director of Emergency Preparedness to lead its emergency programs from Akron, OH. The role integrates meteorology, data science, situational awareness, and technology to prepare for and recover from severe weather events and other emergencies.

You will oversee EOP development, incident management, after‑action reviews, and performance metrics while partnering across enterprise functions to improve resilience and restoration capabilities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in emergency management, Engineering, Meteorology, Data Science, or related field.
  • Master’s degree or advanced certification (CEM, PMP, Lean/Six Sigma, or similar) preferred.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of progressive experience in emergency preparedness or incident management.
  • Strong working knowledge of ICD/NIMS and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience with utility mutual assistance networks and large event logistics.
  • Proven ability to leverage weather data and analytics in operational decision‑making.

Responsibilities

  • Lead development, execution and continuous improvement of Emergency Operations Plans (EOPs).
  • Direct preparedness and response for major system emergencies including severe storms and infrastructure failures.
  • Oversee incident command activation and ensure ICS/NIMS compliance.
  • Lead after‑action reviews and drive corrective actions.
  • Drive organizational change to embed preparedness and resilience into electric operations culture.
  • Translate weather/operational intelligence into actionable guidance for leaders.
  • Develop executive dashboards and status reports for real‑time decision making.
