Job summary

FirstEnergy Corp, headquartered in Akron, OH, is seeking a meteorology/forecasting professional to provide centralized meteorological support across FE units. The role includes weather modeling, analysis, and briefings to senior leadership, with emphasis on events that could disrupt power and require rapid decision-making.

Ideal candidates will have a BS in Meteorology or Atmospheric Science, 5+ years in operational forecasting, and strong data analysis skills.

Qualifications

• Required: Bachelor of Science in Meteorology or Atmospheric Science.
• At least 5 years professional experience in operational forecasting.
• Preferred: Master’s degree in meteorology or Atmospheric Science or equivalent.
• Ability to analyze real-time and prognostic meteorological data at different temporal and spatial scales.
• Ability to provide meteorological support to key decision-makers on high impact events.

Responsibilities

• Provides centralized meteorological support to all FE business units.
• Provides air quality modeling, policy, regulatory, and technical support.
• Provides weather forecast support for weather events capable of disrupting power.
• Provides briefings and presentations to senior leadership as required.
• Provides medium range forecast support.
• Develops and maintains computer programs to create products for FE's internal customers.
• Be available for off-hours and weekend support.
• Plan and coordinate internal weather suite training programs.
• Review and update FE Weather procedures and protocols.
• Participate in Storm calls providing guidance on developing weather conditions.

Education

Bachelor of Science in Meteorology or Atmospheric Science

Master's degree in meteorology or Atmospheric Science or equivalent
