Job summary

Armstrong World Industries in Lancaster, PA seeks a Sr Research Scientist (Metallurgy) to lead materials innovation for architectural metal systems. You will integrate metallurgy, surface engineering, coatings science, and manufacturing processes to improve durability and performance of interior and exterior products.

Qualifications

• Strong understanding of physical metallurgy and metal forming processes.
• Experience with corrosion science and protective coating systems.
• Experience working in or with manufacturing environments.
• Proficiency in data analysis and technical reporting.

Responsibilities

• Lead R&D of metal ceiling and wall systems using aluminum, steel, and alloys.
• Develop surface preparation and finishing technologies including coatings and patinas.
• Design experiments to assess durability, corrosion, and long-term performance.
• Lead cross-functional projects from concept to commercialization.
• Ensure compliance with relevant standards and documentation.
