Job summary

Precision Castparts Corp. (Wyman-Gordon) in Worcester, MA seeks a Senior Product Metallurgist to provide metallurgical engineering support for isothermal forge operations, heat treating, and product quality.

You will lead technical investigations, guide process improvements, and mentor operations personnel while collaborating with product engineering on new alloys and methods. The role emphasizes rigorous quality systems adherence, safety, and cross-functional teamwork in a lean environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field.
• 5–10 years of experience in a metallurgical capacity on a production floor.
• Specialized knowledge of metallurgical principles, standards, methods and practices.
• Understanding of statistics and Six Sigma practices.

Responsibilities

• Serve as internal/external technical contact for thermomechanical processing (forge and heat treat).
• Provide technical support across departments and for input materials in isothermal forge operations.
• Identify metallurgical deviations and substantiate corrective actions.
• Develop and maintain expertise with nickel-based superalloys and titanium product lines.
• Maintain hot working procedures and primary technical support for customer complaints.
• Ensure Quality Systems Manual requirements are followed and training provided.
• Collaborate on process improvements, PFMEA, risk assessments, and 8D/problem-solving activities.
• Assist Product Engineering with new alloys, processing methods, and product qualifications.
