Job summary

Precision Castparts' Wyman Gordon Pennsylvania division seeks a Senior Plant Metallurgist to lead metallurgical activities at Mountaintop and Tru-Form, ensuring safe, cost-effective processes for aerospace rings.

You will partner with quality, manufacturing, engineering, labs, suppliers, and customers, overseeing welding, heat treatment, materials testing, and process development while driving continuous improvement and Nadcap/AS9100 compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, or related field.
• 5+ years in metallurgical, materials, manufacturing, or process-engineering in ISO 9001/AS9100 environment.
• Experience in technical problem solving, process development, product qualification, or continuous improvement.
• Ability to interpret customer and industry specs into effective controls.
• Knowledge of root-cause analysis, 8D, SPC, MSA, PFMEA, control plans, and process-capability methods.
• Strong written and verbal communication; able to present to customers and leadership.
• Ability to work across manufacturing, quality, engineering, labs, supply chain, and customers.
• MS Office proficiency (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams).

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day metallurgical leadership for Mountaintop and Tru-Form facilities.
• Establish, document, and maintain metallurgical controls for welding, heat treatment, forming, and testing.
• Develop procedures, work instructions, process specifications, and control plans.
• Lead the Process Control Welding Initiative with parameter definition and verification.
• Build practical knowledge through shop-floor engagement and review of technical records.
• Translate customer and regulatory requirements into manufacturing criteria.
• Own metallurgical aspects of new product introductions and qualification activities.
• Investigate failures, nonconformances, customer complaints, and corrective actions.
• Apply SPC, capability analysis, MSA, and trend analysis to reduce variation and scrap.
• Maintain controls for raw materials, outside testing, and calibration providers; work with suppliers.
• Support Nadcap accreditation and AS9100 compliance; prepare audits and close findings.
• Maintain specification/testing databases and propagate changes to procedures and controls.
• Represent the company in technical discussions, product development, and audits.
• Mentor engineers, technicians, and operators in metallurgy and problem solving.
• Support safety, lean manufacturing, on-time delivery, and zero-defect initiatives.
