Job summary

Exponent is seeking a Managing Engineer for the Metallurgical & Corrosion Engineering Practice in Chicago, IL or Warrenville, IL. You will lead a team, develop business opportunities, and expand the practice through technical excellence in metallurgical analysis and lab-based work.

The role requires a Ph.D. in a related field, 5–10 years of experience, and PE licensure. Strong communication and leadership abilities, plus a proven BD track record, are essential for success in this position.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering, Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline.
• 5–10 years of related professional experience.
• Professional engineer licensure (PE or P. Eng) in Metallurgical Engineering or related discipline is required.
• Specialized knowledge of operating a laboratory with materials characterization techniques (e.g., SEM, FIB, TEM, EDS, XPS, Auger, SIMS, FTIR, acoustic microscopy, X-ray).
• Litigation experience as a testifying expert is preferred but not required.
• Business development experience with a proven track record.

Responsibilities

• Identifying, developing, and securing new business opportunities.
• Significantly increasing Exponent's metallurgical and corrosion engineering consulting efforts, particularly in laboratory-based analysis.
• Analyzing safety, performance, and reliability issues related to metallurgical and corrosion engineering using field inspections, engineering analysis and experiments.
