Job summary

Exponent Inc. seeks a Managing Engineer for the Metallurgical & Corrosion Engineering Practice in Chicago, IL or Warrenville, IL. You will lead a team to develop business opportunities and expand our metallurgical capabilities, with emphasis on laboratory-based analysis and client-facing consulting.

The role requires a Ph.D. and 5–10 years of related experience, PE licensure, and proven leadership in the field.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering or related discipline.
• At least 5–10 years of professional experience.
• PE or P. Eng licensure in Metallurgical Engineering or related discipline is required.
• Specialized knowledge of operating a laboratory with materials characterization techniques (e.g., SEM, FIB, TEM, EDS, XPS, Auger, SIMS, FTIR, acoustic microscopy, X-ray).

Responsibilities

• Identifying, developing, and securing new business opportunities.
• Significantly increasing Exponent's metallurgical and corrosion engineering consulting efforts, particularly in laboratory-based analysis.
• Analyzing a wide variety of safety, performance, and reliability issues related to metallurgical and corrosion engineering using field inspections, engineering analysis and experimental testing
