Job summary

Exponent is seeking a Metallurgical Engineer for its Metallurgical and Corrosion Engineering Practice in Seattle, WA. You will conduct materials, metallurgical, and mechanical failure investigations, field inspections, and specialized testing.

The role requires a PhD in Metallurgical Engineering or related field, with strong materials characterization skills and excellent communication. You will collaborate within cross-disciplinary teams and present results to clients and staff.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, with familiarity in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Strong background in materials characterization techniques (e.g., SEM, EDS, FIB, X-ray radiography/diffraction).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work within project teams with a strong desire to contribute to the team.
  • Knowledge of failure analysis desired.
  • Presently legally authorized to work in the US, no immigration sponsorship or visa processing required.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting hands-on failure analyses
  • Materials characterization, metallurgical analysis
  • Planning, coordinating, and executing laboratory testing
  • Conducting field inspections
  • Effective presentation of results to technical and non-technical clients and staff
  • Communicating effectively with other engineers, technicians, managers, clients, and administrative staff
