Job summary

Morris Heating & Cooling is seeking a hands-on Controller to own the accounting and financial reporting function end to end from its Cincinnati area base. The role requires leading journal entries, monthly close, job costing, billing, AP, payroll, and financial reporting, bridging BuildOps with QuickBooks Online.

The ideal candidate has 7+ years of accounting/finance experience in MEP or specialty trades, with strong project accounting and ERP integration skills, and a proven ability to drive

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
• CPA and/or CMA a plus.
• 7+ years of accounting/finance experience, including direct MEP experience.
• Hands-on command of POC/job-cost accounting, WIP, cash forecasting, billing and collections, AP, payroll, and month-end close.
• Proven ability to develop and maintain ETC/ cost-to-complete for projects.
• Experience improving financial processes, controls, and cash management in a lean or growing environment a plus.
• Experience owning a full monthly close and preparing journal entries in QuickBooks Online.
• Experience with BuildOps (or a comparable ERP) and integrating it with an accounting system a plus.
• Strong Excel skills and comfort building and maintaining reporting.

Responsibilities

• Percent-of-Completion & WIP Accounting: Own POC revenue recognition and WIP schedules, including over-/under-billings, earned revenue, and backlog reporting.
• Estimated Total Cost (ETC): Develop and update ETC and estimate-at-completion with project managers.
• Monthly Close: Own the full monthly close, reconciliations, accruals, and consolidated schedules.
• Journal Entries in QuickBooks Online: Prepare and post entries to maintain a clean GL.
• BuildOps Integration: Manage integration between BuildOps and QuickBooks Online, troubleshooting sync issues.
• Job Costing & Margin Analysis: Maintain job-costing across labor, materials, subcontractors, and equipment; provide margin analysis.
• Cash, Billing & Collections: Own cash forecasting, progress billings, and collections; manage retainage and liens.
• Accounts Payable & Payroll: Manage AP and coordinate payroll with proper coding to jobs.
• Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly financial reporting packages for leadership.
• Controls & Compliance: Establish internal controls and coordinate with CPAs, bonding agents, insurers, and banks.
• Systems & Process: Document and improve accounting processes and controls for automation and scalability.
