Job summary

Southland Industries, a leading 100% employee-owned MEP company, seeks an experienced design engineer and engineering leader in Columbus, OH. You will guide design efforts across HVAC and plumbing disciplines, attend key project meetings, and uphold engineering standards throughout the project lifecycle.

Lead a small team of engineers, mentor staff, and drive technical excellence while collaborating with clients and contractors to achieve project goals.

Qualifications

• PE license required.
• Minimum 12 years’ relevant experience, including minimum 5 years’ people management.
• Expert knowledge of applicable systems design (HVAC, plumbing, etc.) and all design engineering aspects.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with all levels of employees, clients and contractors.
• Proven ability to lead an engineering group and manage staffing and performance.

Responsibilities

• Provide design and engineering guidance on projects; attend meetings as design expert.
• Partner with teams to maintain engineering standards and stay current on industry trends.
• Manage conceptual design and prepare redline layouts for estimates; size equipment and perform calculations.
• Conduct site inspections to verify conformance with construction documents and resolve issues during construction.
• Lead a smaller group of engineers, including coaching and performance management.
