Job summary

Clera is seeking a senior software engineer to lead engineering challenges across document processing, AI integrations, APIs, and user-facing features. You will own backend services and ensure reliable workflows for complex legal tasks.

You will ship production-ready features from design through release, collaborating with cross-functional teams and legal experts. A practical, quality-focused approach is essential.

Qualifications

• Production web apps/services experience and strong software design fundamentals
• Proficient in Python or TypeScript
• Experience with APIs, databases, cloud infrastructure, or distributed backend systems
• Experience with document processing workflows and AI/LLM integration
• Practical approach to testing, code review, debugging, and improving systems after launch
• Clear written communication, ownership, and ability to collaborate with a distributed team
• Frontend, security, or workflow automation experience is a plus

About the Role

Join a product engineering team building software for complex legal work. You will own engineering challenges across document processing, AI integrations, APIs, and user-facing features, helping make important document workflows reliable and practical.

What You'll Do

• Build reliable APIs, backend services, and document processing workflows for research, drafting, review, and finished work.

• Deliver core product features from technical design through release and iteration, collaborating with engineers and legal experts.

• Integrate AI capabilities into practical workflows while focusing on quality, speed, and dependable behavior.

• Improve interfaces for complex document tasks and work across the stack to make them easier to use.

• Translate user needs into engineering plans and communicate the tradeoffs behind technical decisions.

• Improve performance, investigate production issues, and strengthen testing, monitoring, and code quality.

What We're Looking For

• Experience shipping and maintaining production web applications or services, with strong software design fundamentals.

• Strong programming skills in a modern language such as Python or TypeScript.

• Experience with APIs, databases, cloud infrastructure, or distributed backend systems, including building reliable APIs and services.

• Experience with document processing workflows and integrating AI or LLM capabilities into production systems.

• A practical approach to testing, code review, debugging, and improving systems after launch.

• Clear written communication, ownership, and ability to collaborate with a distributed, cross-functional team.

• Frontend development, complex data or security needs, legal technology, workflow automation, or related experience is useful.

Compensation & Benefits

Annual base salary is $180,000 to $250,000 USD, depending on skills, experience, and role scope. The role offers substantial ownership and direct input into product decisions. Visa sponsorship is not available.
