Job summary

Howard University Hospital is seeking an experienced Medical Technologist Generalist II to perform routine and complex clinical diagnostic testing across Chemistry, Hematology, Blood Bank and Microbiology. This bench role involves mentoring MT I staff and ensuring quality results that support diagnosis in a national teaching hospital setting.

Candidates should hold a BS in Medical Technology (or related field), have ASCP MT/HC, and 3 years in an accredited lab.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology or a related field.
• Three (3) years of progressive work experience in an accredited laboratory.
• ASCP registry as MT or H/C, or an equivalent registry.
• Ability to accurately perform testing procedures and to handle specimens properly.
• Proficiency in interpreting and evaluating laboratory results.
• Ability to perform routine and complex testing across Chemistry, Hematology, Blood Bank and Microbiology.
• Competence in both oral and written English, and ability to work well in a team.

Responsibilities

• Perform patient and QC testing across multiple disciplines; report results according to policy.
• Report and document critical values according to policy.
• Apply clinical correlation of current results with other patient tests.
• Prioritize and manage workload to meet Turn-Around-Times (TATs).
• Maintain inventories and restock workstations to sustain workflow.
• Receive, store and verify reagents; follow safety guidelines.
• Monitor equipment, diagnose malfunctions, and coordinate service as needed.
• Assist in inspections and mentor MT I staff and students.
