Job summary

VA Medical Center seeks a Technical Specialist in Laboratory Medicine to provide expert consultation on complex tests such as flow cytometry and molecular pathology. The role supports regulatory compliance and develops procedures for new and existing tests.

The incumbent will mentor technologists and residents, advise management on testing strategies, and ensure high-quality diagnostic care for Veterans at a national level.

Qualifications

• Citizenship: U.S. citizenship required.
• Education and/or Experience: associate degree plus 3 years related work experience.
• Certification: must have or be eligible for ASCP-BOR, NCA, AACC, AMT, or AAB certification.

Responsibilities

• Serve as expert advising on complex tests (e.g., flow cytometry, molecular pathology).
• Advise on regulatory, accrediting, and medicolegal requirements and testing procedures.
• Develop procedures for new tests and adjust existing methods to resolve complex issues.
• Instruct and mentor newly hired technologists and residents in proper testing applications.
